A business student, therefore, might examine the practices of a particular institution or company and determine what aspects are critical to the well being of the company and its clientele. Though a subjective measure, one may argue that value, is a function of benefit to the consumer and society as well. In the end value is really a subjective measure. What is of value to one may be significantly of lesser value to another. Therefore it is important to understand that technology must and should be of a standard that allows practitioners to use it in a way that benefits mankind. After all, technology is created by mankind him/herself and should work towards the benefit of those who use it and those who it used for. Further questions arise regarding the use of value as a metric of medical equipment and medical practitioners. Do humans really understand the complexity of the medical devices that they have created or the implications of the technology that lays behind them, or can we ever really hope to do so? An important fact to consider from the Institute of Medicine is printed below: For example, according to the findings of the Institute of Medicine in 1999, around 100000 Americans die each year because of human error. While the quote above does not point mention to the cause of those errors, one may wonder if the culprit does not lie in our laziness with regard to training and better working standards.Surely technologists and physicians could find a way to work together to provide better treatment standards for their patients and work towards a plan that would help them eliminate medical error. Doing so would likely reduce the amount of medical malpractice that has emerged in the United States. I am firmly convinced that when technologists and the clients that they work with, in any given discipline, work together, they can increase the level of knowledge about the technologies that they use and work towards the improvement of the practices that they support.Clearly a system in which doctors and physicians do not work with technologists to train and understand the systems that they are working with is bad for the economy and society. For example, suppose that doctors did not work together in harmony with technologists.Surely the price of medical errors and time wasted would increase. Increasing wastefulness in any regard is harmful and costly to society and its economy. It is my hope that in the opinion of this article, one will understand that there are alternatives to the wrongfulness of technologists and medical practitioners. An understanding of the tenants of training systems and methods that they employ will help a society to become better off in terms of the patients and the corrective actions taken to help heal them.
