Strategic merger or acquisitions tend to form a component of organisational growth in terms of accruing economic benefits to a company. The assumption is that economic benefits accrue from synergistic links within the new entity. It is also assumed that the more closely related the two firms are the greater the synergetic benefits are, (Lubatkin, 1987; Shelton, 1988).
